The hard X - ray properties of the Seyfert nucleus in NGC 1365
We present BeppoSAX observations of the Seyfert 1.8 galaxy NGC1365 in the 0.1–100 keV range. The source was 6 times brighter than during an ASCA observation 3 years earlier. The 4–10 keV flux is highly variable during the BeppoSAX observation, while the soft (0.1-4 keV) emission is constant within the errors. Both a cold and a warm reflector and a cold absorber are required to explain the obser...
متن کاملHighly ionized iron absorption lines from outflowing gas in the X - ray spectrum of NGC 1365
We present the discovery of four absorption lines in the X-ray spectrum of the Seyfert Galaxy NGC 1365, at energies between 6.7 and 8.3 keV. The lines are detected with high statistical confidence (from > 20σ for the strongest to ∼ 4σ for the weakest) in two XMM-Newton observations 60 ksec long. We also detect the same lines, with lower signal-to-noise (but still > 2σ for each line) in two prev...
متن کاملX-ray Spectrum of the Black Hole Candidate X1755-338
We report the rst detection of a hard power-law tail in the X-ray spectrum of the black hole candidate (BHC) binary X1755-338, which was observed in 1989 March-September during the TTM Galactic Centre survey. In addition, an ultrasoft thermal component with a temperature of 1:1 1:4 keV was also detected. We demonstrate that the soft and hard X-ray components of X1755-338 vary independently, as ...
متن کاملX - ray observations of NGC 1365 : time - resolved eclipse of the X - ray source
We present an extraordinary variation of the X-ray spectrum of the obscured AGN in NGC 1365, which was observed by Chandra to change from Compton-thin to Compton-thick and back to Compton-thin in four days. This fast variation imply a a size of ∼ 10 14 cm for the emitting region, and an extremely compact size (∼ 10 16 cm) of the clumpy circumnuclear absorber.
متن کاملThe ROSAT view of NGC 1365 and the luminous highly variable off-nuclear X-ray source NGC 1365–X1
We present an X-ray spectral and spatial analysis of the composite starburst/Seyfert galaxy NGC1365. Excellent fits of the ROSAT PSPC spectrum are obtained by combining a soft thermal component with a hard powerlaw. The hard component may be either seen directly or can be explained by scattering of the AGN powerlaw at circumnuclear warm high-column-density gas. A compilation of the multi-wavele...
